Firstly, Natty, my new website address is at the bottom, yep, I'm officially ONLINE!
Now, just a couple of points to raise to the general witchy populous out there. Many of you are mailing in to ask for advice from experienced people, so I hope that the following helps.
1. Start with the basics. It may be tempting to miss the first few chapters in your "How to be a Witch in two weeks" book, but if you don't know how to protect yourself or ground yourself etc, you could find yourself in a world of hurt. A house ain't nothing if it hasn't got foundations...
2. Don't perform rites for people without their knowledge or permission. You may think you are helping but your help could have greater effect and not always how you intended. Ask first, even for healing spells.
3. Chosing a name like "Skywarbler" or "Moon Unit Zippo", wandering around in long black dresses and big silver pentagles shouting the odds about how you are a 73rd level initiate is not a)gonna impress anyone and b)does NOT make you a witch. It is a personal thing to be kept private, especially you younger folks. You may think you're cool but your mates will just think you're weird. If you want to push your beliefs on someone, go join a fundamental church. Wicca is a quiet, personal thing. Ordinary folk don't understand. Don't waste your time justifying yourself.
4.Finally, know when NOT to use magic. If you want to pass exams, STUDY. If you want money, work for it. Magic is not a quick fix option. It's years of hard work, take it from me.

I agree with the lady who said that you are either a witch or not a witch. I know I was born a true pagan and have consequently pursued the craft, although I have done it by myself and have not let myself become restricted by any one path. It is lovely to have the freedom to pick out what you feel comfortable with at the beginning and have such a diverse and huge amount to learn. I feel content, intouch with nature, the etheric, spirit guides, and am comfortable with myself. This is the ultimate pleasure for me and I love it immensely. It is nice to be able to see that little bit further...

Take time to look at the insignificant and apparently unimportant things which are not immediately obvious, and you will be awakened to a whole new world of wonder and beauty. I have noticed quite a few quirks in the bible. I beleive that it is common knowledge that there is a great deal of discrimination in the bible. "Use every seed-bearing plant to your advantage" suggests that the bible condones marijauna. I was very supprised to see these statements about women in the bible. I go to a Catholic school. I think I have mostly forgiven the Christians for their mass murders, causing the plague, etc. When Eve gave into temptation, he punished humans in two ways. Women would be plagued with painful childbirth and men would have to put up with women. God is mad because gay and lesbian people found a loophole. After all of this, I am proud to say that Paganism is the religeon for me.

I find the amount people calling themselves witches so they can practice spells on this site very disturbing. I am 16 almost 17 and have been reading about wicca for the past 3 years, I feel that the more information I get on the religion the better the witch i will be when i decide to start practising. Love & happines to dolphinfire26 I too, know the strain of being a lone student. Respect to Mother Maiden Crone... who is right ot 'chastise' exhuberant new ones as, being blessed with the path and walking the path are two very different things. I have be blessed with the gift which has taken me over 7 years to acknowledge and even to date... I hold this insight in utmost reverence. hi i would just like to say i have been a witch now for 2 years and in my cicle we have done lots we have really enjoyed it and have found it really pleasing to see some of our work go to good and work.
u may not believe us but one of the witches in the cicles brothers rabbit was dying and couldnt walk we cast a spell and by the next week the rabbit was pure fine in return we all got rid of a cold we had

I completely agree with what you said in the beginning of the entries. God and Jesus and Wicca is for everyone! I must hand it to you for making a statement to WAKE people up. Without people like you to help us see and remind those of us who doubt and sin and are just plain, ignorant, we wouldn't have our religous beliefs and we wouldn't be able to keep peace between the religions. I think something needs saying here.
From the entries that I've read on this page, I can see that the overwhelming majority are just plain, selfish and irresponsible.
WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE PEOPLE!
Where were u told that only witches do magic? For instance, did you know that prayer is actually a form of magic, and one of the strongest? What do u think Christians do when they pray? They invoke/evoke Jesus or God, for help and advice, much like others do with their Gods and Goddesses. The point is that you shouldnt swap faiths just because you want to do magick - THAT is selfish, and maybe a little research wouldn't harm some of you. You say you want to be witches, good witches, when you want to do love magick, bindings, and magicks for self gain? Those are BLACK magicks. BAD stuff.

All you need to be a witch, is belief in your self, that's what it's all about. Realising who you are and loving yourself for that, and all others.
I mean hey! I'm not even a witch anymore, but I still do my magicks. You dont have to stop believing something just because you're viewing it the way your parents did. Turn it around! Angels are universal, and Jesus is only one in a long line of holy people, basically a christian version of the wiccan Son of the Goddess.

Did you know there are christians who actually believe in Mary as another form of the Goddess?

I am shocked at the amount of under 16 year olds thinking of practicing a religion that has been hyped up on the dreaded t.v.

I enjoyed the site in general...you've done a great job compiling so much information. I'm 45 and have followed the Goddess for the better part of those years, after MUCH studying of the world's religious paths. I too, am having a bit of trouble with the Women-only attitude. Some of the best wiccans I've ever met have been men. Oh well.
I am also dismayed at the number of young people who have TOTALLY missed the idea about Wicca as a religion and spiritual path. Is this only happening in the UK? Are a lot of these kids from the US?
This is the very reason I practice as a solitary....there are just too many kids who are only in it for POWER. And not the matriarchal power that comes from within, but the good old-fashioned "power over" that goes hand in hand with patriarchy.
Ex: "a love spell to put someone totally in your power?" Oh my stars!

Hello, I'm 21/m and a friend of mine who is a witch showed and gave me information on wicca and blessed me into the realm of magik. I have since had very weird events happen to me. The following are things that have happened to me since being blessed. The day after being blessed I was outside and I closed my eyes and felt this pure warmth come over me and as I thought of the wind I lifted my hand and it began to blow al around me. I casted a circle and spoke with the elements and spirits of the woods and earth around me and when I looked up right above was a circle of clouds floating above the spot in the sky, and a frog hopped into my lap.. I have sat in meditation and concentrated on the room around me and the tempature climbed to where I began to sweat. I have never done wicca or magik but things like this have happened to me since I was young. Please explain how you square your Witches cry philosophy with the witches code that as we know says as long as it harmeth none...yet I know of several cases where women have broken up families this year because they have followed the "no longer will women be supressed" ,call. there are many of you who write on this page just to get spells. There is much more depth involved. I have been studing this religion for 3 years, and only now has all the information really meant something. I advise many newcomers to research this faith, until they start to understand the feelings needed and the comitment. Many of you say 'please mail me' why don't you e-mail older wiccas, that would be more effective. There is also a chat room here, and like others i have loged on and no-one is there. Please use your brains, sharing is not a one-way system, You must get yourself involved also. I am happy to share info with any1, but please remember, many wiccas like to share info, so please buy books. There are many around nowadays as book stores are starting to supply books and magick and other rituals.

I want to say that i agree with George for her/his (i'm sorry i don't know which) entry, about how people just write "please send some spells and tell me more", i'd like to say that for some don't really know where to start, how about this site? If you really wanted to learn, you would go through books and look up information and take time to investigate. If you do want to learn from others, ask specific questions and they are far more likely to answer, this is how i found shops where i could find working tools and information. I am a new witch and have much more to learn, but i try to do it with my sister witch and not ask others these open ended questions. If anyone does want to talk to me, you can mail me, although i'm not all that expierienced so i don't know what help i'll be! So don't waste your time here while you wait for someone to reply, it's not going to work like that with an approach which shows you'v only spent thirty seconds thinking about what you want out of this. Also why does everyone think witches are about spells? This is not just a fun past-time for most people, this is a religion so although you may only have a brief interest, think about if this is what you want, and don't just ask for spells.

What is the point?
At present there are 251 members registered with this site and there is never any one here. I come here regularly to see if I can find some one with the same common interests as mine. What I do see is a guest book full of people who either claim to be withches or people who want to learn about the subject. The organisers of this site have obviously put in a great deal of time and effort to make this site as good as it is but no one makes use of it. The old religion is as far as I can tell a wonderfull and spiritual religion to follow, there is so much we can learn from each other if we put our minds to it. I am some one who wants to learn but it seems that most of the members of this site are only here for the time it takes to pass through and no more. There are two chat rooms here they never get used, Those rooms where not put here because the site organisers had a spare five mins and nothing better to do, it is a place to share experience and to swap information and for people to learn from each other. If you are serious then why not make use of the things on offer instead of coming here and saying, "I WANT TO LEARN TO BE A WITCH." Dopping off your E/Mail address and waiting for some one who has spent their life studying to come and find you.

Hi, Just wanted to say that I am impressed with your site. My father use to study the craft and I have to admit that I have not untill now. The Idea of a Christian God has never set right with me and to be honest I do not know what to believe or even if i should believe anything but it does make sense that if the female of the spieces gives birth the it would seem that the Earth Mother would be the one to be in charge as it were. In 1998 I lost both my younger brothers in one night at the hands of a man with a knife. After that I felt that I should if possible make contact with them and have done so with the help of a good spiritualist medium. Now i want to know more, I do not know if following the Wicca path is going to be right for me so any guidence you can offer would help greatly. you see my girlfreind is a witch and ahs been for a few years now. And well, we plan to go to scotland in september and well, this is where it gets tricky

Golly, I feel kind of out of place not being between the ages of 12 and 15. I am 23 years old and have been dedicated for the past 4 years to reading every book that I can get my grubby little hands on & I still don't feel ready to cast my first spell. I feel that if people (especially young people) try to make this a trend, they will trivialize it and that is almost as bad as the church condemning it. All I am saying, is that this is something very serious to be respected and felt in the depths of your soul, whether you be male or female. And to the person who asked if there was a convent in her area, if you don't know how to spell coven you are not ready! I don't mean to be harsh, I am just upset, it is like people are unknowningly making a mockery of something that I am so passionate about!

Well I have to say it. Gosh. There we go, that was the extent of my rant.
Well not quite.............
I am not quite 12, so I think that Witch's are really "COOL".
Hummmm..... I am male and over the age of 21, so what can I do? To have a belief is be of a certain sex. My big male arse!!!!!
I have no worries with my own faith and how I choose to practice it, but to lead people into the assumption that to be a witch is to be female is on the whole wrong in my opinion. If that is the way that you see the Lord and Lady, then I wish you well. I really do. I would rather see things on a more blanced basis. There are "bad" men as there are "bad" women. Just for the sake of my testicles, I don't see why you have a problem.
I have offended many people, male and female, but I am no "CAVE-MAN". If I had the gaul and the misinformed opinion to set up a "MALE" witch site, I would be flooded with mail telling me what an oppresive git I was and how I couldn't do that to women. So why do it to men? Positive discrimination is still discrimination and is wrong in ANY context. I am sorry that you fell obliged to be so selective to a subject that I believe teaches balance and equality between all things.
I welcome any rants from anyone else that now either wants to shout at me or buy me a pint 'down the pub! :-)
I guess I shall be expecting the former, but hey, sorry to be a pain.

Nice page. But I agree that to distance ourselves from the male attributes of paganism is wrong. We try to make ourselves better than "them" then we have not learnt our lesson. That is we have not learnt from their mistakes/ignorances and seek to revenge for the hurt and injustices recieved at their hands. Rise above it take what is good, use it and forgive for past deeds. Only then can we all grow in a truly equal way. The real power lays not within the deity, but in the will of the practioner and the light in their heart.

I have enjoyed very much looking at this web site, although the exclusion of men from the Craft seems a bit strange, after all, Wicca seems to tolerate all religions, creeds and colours, and yet not men? This confuses me as a woman who is trying to understand Wicca through books and internet sites such as these. The Reed seems to contain only eight words, and none of those mention the exclusivity of worship to women.
That little niggle aside, does anyone know of a coven in Britol, or anyone in that area who would be willing to answer a few of my questions? I would be glad of some guidance.

I'm a natural witch and i have to tell you all i have never had do do a spell under a full moon (although stars do help). also this site is really great although i think i prefer the normal way of using tarot cards.
i have a great spell for a love intrest and i would recomend you use it although they usually get really clingy after you do the spell.
does anyone also watch those programs like 'buffy' well i know they are crap but i wondered if anyone had tryed doing the pencil thing (geting it to move on its own) i tried it with my hairdryer and now every time i'm about to use it it turns on by its self!!!!

I stumbled into the world of Wicca as a result of two things. A love of the natural environment and an appreciation of our pre-Christian (for me, Celtic) ancestors. To date I haven't practiced and my friends refer to me as a scholar, not as a witch. It saddens me to see many teenagers who want to cast spells. Please spend more time studying the Craft. I have seen far to many people get overwhelmed by it all and become to self centred and egotistical to be able to call themselves a Wiccan witch. It also saddens me to see that the Witches of Ely want to swing from one extreme to the other. Female dominant society will be as unbalanced as male dominant society. There are two sides to every coin and surely the skill is being able to stand the coin on its edge instead of lying it down on one side or the other. I can only assume that they base their variance of the Wiccan way on the Dianic branch of Wicca that was imported from America. Personally I would like to see us continue were we left off before the Romans interfered. My perception of what history has to teach us is that if the Romans hadn't imposed Christianity on us then; in the middle ages we wouldn't of cut down all our magnificent ancient woodlands. Therefore, we wouldn't of had great sailing ships to do battle with and explore. Therefore, we wouldn't of colonised the Americas and Australia. Therefore, we would still have a flourishing native American society and Australian aboriginal society. And most importantly, in this instance, we wouldn't have a feminist movement bent on getting revenge on what the church has imposed on us men as well as you women. Further more if society still followed the Old Religion we probably wouldn't have developed the nuclear bomb or genetic engineering. To all you teenagers out there, there are more important things to be discovered in the world of Wicca other than casting spells and belonging to a coven.

I wanted to respond to your message. I have been interested in becoming a witch for much of my life. About 8 years ago I became a witch in heart and soul after I was in a circle with a wonderful friend - (just the two of us). Afterwards I had a hard time accepting Christianity and my Christian relatives had a hard time accepting me. I live in my heart as a witch but I too go to Church sometimes with my mom. There is a beatuiful picture of Mary in stained glass and she is illuminated by the morning sunlight with seems to glow around her, through her sending out a blue glow that comforts me even in the Christian Church. I realized then that everyone is the same. We all believe something different and no one can tell you who to pray to or what to pray. My advise to all witches is to be kind and understanding to all others - they pray to a God or Goddess that we may not but They are all one. Your religion is in your heart. And be a God or Goddess in heaven they will love us all.

I have enjoyed visiting this site. I do not conform to any set religion but I have read a lot about the wiccan way and feel very strongly about it. I am however quite concerned about the amount of messages I have read, where people are asking for spells etc, also if you are a "Witch" you will just know messages.... I think anyone can perform magik, but you should always remember the first rule. NEVER practice magik to control other people in any way shape or form as it will come back to you threefold. Although I do not practice I know a lot about the Goddess and unless you know what you are doing leave it alone.

I believe as long as we worship the earth and are good to one another this is the wiccan way.

First of all, I am FEMALE. Vassago is a male name, but I really like it. I have been interested in witchcraft for three years, and I tried it many times, only to find it failed me. I have long before thought about becoming Satanic, to solve my problems, but in the end, they all burn in Hell... so that choice went down the drain as well. I currently have a boyfriend of one week yesterday, (Oct.6, 1999) and he and I feel we are soulmates for life. Male dominated societies and religions have flourished because of the mind set that men and women are innately given rights that the other one does not have. Although female company and energy is different with out men, as a society we need both genders to balance. For women to band together against males perpetuates the same mind set that keeps women dominated all over the world. As a witch, Our call should be to teach and to balance, not to exclude men for the lessons that they are trying to unlearn. I believe that all witches, male and female should worship and learn separtely and together, embracing and learning from one another. Merry Meet! I am not a witch, but have been researching the study of witchcraft for some time now. I was born into the Christian religion and practiced it for 21 years. Then, My son was born 5 months ago with 5 heart defects. He's doing wonderful now, but I found myself asking why this god that is supposed to be of the only perfect love and perfect trust, would let an innocent child go through this. I knew the god I had loved and trusted was not what I was really about. I agree with everything I have seen thus far in my studies of witchcraft and am very interested in becoming a witch and being part of a coven. I like the look of your site and the information you place herein. However, I have been practicing Witchcraft for years and I have never once heard from any credible sources that a male cannot be a witch. I do not understand how you can be so against males. In them, I find friends, confidants, lovers, and family. Not all men are bad. For centuries, there have been many of us that have spoken out against the prejudices that society places upon us. I find it hypocritical to turn around and do the same thing to men. We are all loved by the Lady and Lord, men and women alike. I understand that you are allowed to have your opinions, and no opinions are wrong ones, but males deserve a fair shot. Just like we do against the prejudices others place upon us.

first:
i want to say that i look forward also to the time when women can take there rightful place. I dont see this as a threat to males but simpley the natural balance of things that nature has always tried to achieve.

secondly:
i would like to say to any who want to become a witch so you can perform magick, you have the wrong motivitions, witchcraft is a ancient earth based religion. The magick is just kind of perk. Magick can affect far to many things to be taken lightly.

Finally:
Any who wish to study witchcraft to honor the lady and the lord and the gifts of nature that they bring and to understand the natural cycles in life should take a look at a book by Scott Cunningham "A guide for a soiltary parationer" This is a good starting point.

Another good author is Silver Ravenwolf, I suggest her book "To Ride a Silver Broomstick." They are both easy to read and understand and hold virtually all the knowledge that you need to start. From that point get on the net and ask for help from other pagans. they will know if you have honest questions.

And dont ask witches to give spells cause they will not. If you cant create your own spells you arent ready to use them. Some witches may perform magick for you if your request has merrit and does not break the Rede but they will not give spells to mundanes. Study and pratice makes for strong magick but know above all else that this is a religion not a toy.

Witches will always help others by pointing them in the right direction, but you must do the work if you are to learn it's lessons.

Approach it with the honor and dignity that it deserves and the Goddess will bestow upon you knowledge of such things that can not be known with out her blessings.

I don't recommend love spells. Ask yourself if you want the love of someone who has been compelled to respond to you. Do you want blind adoration, or a relationship of equals. Or do you feel yourself unworthy of someones love. You should approach the godess about your own self, and find out what it is about you that you are unhappy about. I wish you the best of luck on your quest. Remember that you must love and accept yourself in order to recieve love.

I had my cards read yesterday and the woman that did it hit everything in my life right on the head. She thought that something in the wicca faith might work for me. Safeguarding myself from the "vibes" of others. I pick up on negativity from other people and it really bothers me. I would like to voice my opinions as to something that has been stated on your website. As far as I can tell, you believe that men cannot be witches. I thought that the religion of Wicca, or WitchCraft, had gotten beyond discrimination, and I also thought that equality between the sexes was one of the main tenets of our belief. I happily consider myself a witch. Wizards are the people in fantasy books that throw fireballs and all that; that is why the leader of the kkk is called the grand wizard, because they are living in a fantasy. Druidry is a totally different religion from Wicca, and being a pagan just means basically not believing in any one belief, but sort of being a mixture of many beliefs, like from Wicca and Druidry and stuff like that. Anyway, I think it is very sad to see that even we, those who propose equality, can't even live by our own edicts. It is entirely my feeling that you should remove such statements from your website, because even though you may be an entirely Dianic coven, there are many male witches that see your web site, and the newer ones could become confused by your statement that men cannot be witches.

these pages. I grow herbs and make posions
and try to help people with these, I have
done it for years and it seems to come

All of my life I have had a dream before a friend or relative dies or comes close to death. When my first husband died I had dreamed it all in two days before-hand. I had friends that stopped speaking to me after this. I guess it frightened them, because there was no way it could be denied that my dreams (or rather nightmares) do indeed come true. I have considered myself a Christian, but, to be honest I am sooooo tired of being ashamed of this. I don't know what I am anymore.
This could be a gift if I could use it to save someone, or to help, but it has been a curse so far in my life. I wish I could make it go away. Is there anyone who can help me make it stop?
